Sunōgāden

In Sunōgāden, I show pine needles hanging over a carpet of snow. They stretch happily in the sunshine rays that warm up the winter landscape. This painting was inspired by a visit to a beautiful Japanese garden in Montreal, after a shower of snow in December. Its title is a Japanese word meaning "snowy garden".

 

This painting is part of my Polar Garden series which invites you into a world of frost and snow on a black and white background, that I warm up with bright colors. In this series I have sought to illustrate how the feel or smell of frozen forest and winter become colors in my mind, creating joyful stories of living nature, beneficent fairies and holiday magic.

 

It was done by first adding cotton fabric to the canvas, then pouring acrylic paint directly from the bottle.
