Volcano

Diptych 30 x 40 &

30 x 15 inches

Acrylic on canvas

In Volcano, a diptych that depicts a frosted tree branch, I wanted to show the glittering beauty of the ice and the surprise that its coldness produces to the touch, which I represented with points of pink shades. I used red shades to illustrate the branch crackling under the frost, like the sound of an awakening volcano, yellow shades to remind the immense joy I feel at the sight of these splendors, and clear green and soft blue shades to recall the smell of the undergrowth and to testify of my unconditional love for this fragile nature.

This painting is part of my Polar Garden series which invites you into a world of frost and snow on a black and white background, that I warm up with bright colors. In this series I have sought to illustrate how the feel or smell of frozen forest and winter become colors in my mind, creating joyful stories of living nature, beneficent fairies and holiday magic.

The patterns of the painting continue on the 1½in sides. It is strung with picture cords ready to hang.
